TechnoServe Board members visited coffee producers and nurseries in Santa Ana and Ahuachapán to learn first-hand how TNS and its allies empower communities, support local coffee producers and entrepreneurs, and drive sustainable economic growth in El Salvador.
In Lepaera, more than 230 producers from Honduras participated in the presentation of the Avanza Café program in alliance with INLOHER. Avanza Café is an initiative promoted by JDE Peet’s, USDA and TechnoServe to empower more than 35 thousand coffee producers from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua to adopt regenerative agriculture practices, reduce carbon emissions and strengthen climate resilience.
Zeke Bryant, USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), together with the Manager of the MOCCA Nicaragua Coffee Program and technical team, visited coffee producers in Jinotega to closely observe the impacts of the program on Nicaragua’s coffee-growing communities.
At one of the most important international events on cocoa and chocolate, MOCCA presented a selection of 17 new profiles from the Cocoa Flavor Map, highlighting the richness and diversity of cocoa from Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua and El Salvador.
MOCCA participated in Expocafé Cajamarca 2024, an event to promote the competitiveness of the Peruvian coffee value chain and boost its positioning in local and international markets.
JDE Peet’s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food for Progress Program, and international non-profit TechnoServe have launched a new initiative, Avanza Café. This program funded by a $15.3 million investment, will introduce regenerative agriculture techniques aimed at improving coffee farm productivity in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, while also reducing the carbon footprint of coffee production and strengthening climate resilience in coffee-growing communities.
Miriam Cuadra, Director of Access to Finance of MOCCA, participated as a panelist in the Regional Forum “Evolution of Inclusive Finance towards Sustainability”, organized by the Central American Microfinance Network (REDCAMIF).
MOCCA participated in a press conference with the National Coffee Board, to share experiences, technical and financial challenges in the renovation of coffee plantations in Peru. The National Coffee Board promotes an initiative to renovate 50 thousand hectares of coffee in Peru.
In La Dalia, Matagalpa, women producers joined an initiative of women entrepreneurs to develop technical, business and leadership skills that promote economic empowerment and equity in decision-making.
MOCCA and the Federation of Small Coffee Producers Cooperatives of Nicaragua (CAFENICA R.L.) signed an agreement to strengthen the resilience of coffee-producing families in the face of the challenges of climate change.
